About
Domestic violence (DV) is a pressing public health issue that affects millions, with a disproportionate impact on Black women. Statistics reveal that approximately 40% of Black women experience domestic violence in their lifetime, compared to 31.5% of women overall. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) reports that Black women are also nearly three times more likely to die from DV-related incidents than their white counterparts, highlighting the critical need for tailored support and resources in this area. The program, "Soul Reflections: Domestic Abuse Survivors Empowered," is dedicated to amplifying the voices of Black women survivors, addressing their unique experiences, and creating a supportive, empowering community. This 13-week program provides a safe, healing space led by two trained facilitators—one of whom is a Licensed Clinician and owner of Mindfully at Peace, PLLC—who bring both professional expertise and personally lived experience in DV. Their insight fosters understanding and compassion, allowing for a peer-led support system that is proven effective in both DV and substance use recovery settings.
